Mike,
Great boat with lots of attention to detail. Have printed a number of your projects and have saved a number of the photos for that day far off in the future (33 months and counting) when Sparrow comes out from storage in the wearhouse and out from under the shrink wrap.
Question: Where did you purchase the stainless steel sink? I have pulled mine with plans to replace it with stainless. Thanks.

Mike's sink is from marisafe
http://www.marisafe.com/store/viewItemSpecs.asp?ID=452211597&CID=45227000&FLT=452211596
According to Mike, it "was a perfect, drop in replacement. it doesn't get much easier, but you'll have to redo the drain plumbing because it has a larger drain."
Only real negative is the fitting diff. Ole Mike's concoction does take up some room.

hi dave. here you go, from a post in another thread:
-----
so we are now sporting a new SS sink. exact fit replacement after enlarging the counter top opening about 1/32" on each corner with a pocket knife. start to finish installation took 15 minutes.
the model number for the sink is:
#452211596 Rectangular Stainless Sink 12.8"x 10.4" Plastimo
about 65 dollars from www.marisafe.com
------
33 months, that would be hard to tough out. are you overseas in the military? _________________ Mike Hayden

Kelly,
Thanks for the info! I wonder how much room is in my folk's garage to store all the parts and gagets that I can think to purchase for Sparrow to have ready when I get back? Guess I'll start with this sink and see what kind of response I get when it shows up in the mail.

I bought the same sink on Mike's advice and it does fit really easy. The plumbing does make you have to think out of the box a little and get creative but you CAN get there in the end !
The alu. sink looks great and make all galley area seem so much better.

Mike,
Thanks for the additional info on the sink.
Yes, I'm in the Marine Corps. I'm in Japan with Sonja and our two girls, quite an adventure. Getting stationed in Japan serves me right for opening my big mouth, twice no less. The first time was when my wife asked if I really thought it a good idea to buy the boat without knowing where we would be stationed next (she is a wise woman). My reply, "we're in the Marine Corps, where ever they send us I guarantee there will be water!" And there is - lots of it. The second instance, just after I purchased Sparrow, I was joking "now that we have a boat, we'll either end up in the desert or overseas." Now if I had just kept my mouth shut! Anyway, good experience, fascinating culture, and some unique opportunities to travel. I am surprised though at the near total absence of sail boats here as the water and sea breezes are incredible. |
